Anyone else feel like they’ve conquered Mount Everest by 8 a.m.? Just getting out the door feels like a Herculean task! The weekend vanished in the blink of an eye, and here we are again, swept up in the whirlwind of another manic Monday. I’ve had my period every week for the past four weeks, and it’s been a total knockout punch. I hadn’t experienced one since before my pregnancy, and honestly, I forgot what a rollercoaster it is. It really is the little things that make this journey so wonderful. The boys had such a lovely time playing with water and splashing about this evening. Nothing expensive, nothing flashy. I feel like I’ve been lulled into false hope with all this recent sunshine, it was wonderful just being able to turf the boys out, so I could crack on with a couple of chores. I don’t know about you but I have no idea what to dress myself or the boys in, I’m either too hot or too cold and packing for a day of activities? is Well, that’s like planning a trip to Amazon Rainforest. Armed with a bag full of puddle suites, suncream, sun heads and an outfit for every season- we’re ready for our daily activity. No matter the weather though we are out the door, I can’t face the toddler carnage from being stuck indoors.

With half-term upon us, most of our groups and classes have taken a well-deserved break, but for us toddler-taming mums, it’s been a game of “What can I possibly do to keep my kids entertained?” For me, this has meant embarking on epic day trips—shoe shopping marathons, expeditions to the local garden centre, and sneaky café pit stops. But with everyone and their grandma out and about, I’ve faced a barrage of questions and comments while wrangling the boys. Some of these gems have veered into the very personal, like “Are they natural?” or “Caesarean delivery, right?” I get it; twins are like unicorns, especially if they’re identical or from a mystical realm of higher than multiples. But it got me pondering—do parents of singletons get this level of nosiness too?

Honestly, I’m okay with curiosity and wouldn’t dream of being rude or clamming up. I’m an open book! Yet, some remarks can sting, like the classic “You’ve got your hands full.” As an overstimulated, sleep-deprived mum teetering on the brink of sanity, pointing out the obvious isn’t exactly helpful. Today, our family escapade whisked us away to the enchanting @birdlandpark! Nestled beautiful gardens and woodland, it’s like a leafy fairy-tale setting for the meandering River Windrush. Our pint-sized adventurers met over lots feathered friends, from mystical owls and mighty cassowaries to other rare birds, penguins and parrots galore! We marveled at flamingos, pelicans, cranes, and waterfowl thriving in their riverside havens. As if that wasn’t enough, we embarked on a dino discovery, taking a Jurassic journey to unearth the birds’ ancient origins. Both kids and grown-ups had a blast, unlocking new memories and enjoying a fabulous day out together!

Are you a sunrise superhero? Not me, never been in that club! I just can’t cozy up to the idea of bouncing out of bed, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, no matter what excitement awaits. Despite my best efforts, the morning charm eludes me. I even dabbled in the 5am brigade once and, sure, felt the perks. But motherhood hit, and now my bed’s become my favorite spot in the universe. Anyone else feel me? I do tip my hat to those who leap out of bed like it’s a trampoline, but I’m more of a slow cooker, needing time to simmer before I’m ready to sizzle. Maybe one day I’ll find the morning mojo to become one of those early risers, but for now, it’s all about bedhead and bottomless coffee mugs.

I jumped onto the trend here and dove into the opinion pool, sharing my two pennies. But hey, it’s just my take, and who knows? Tomorrow, I might think differently. For instance, I was all about “breast is best” until my twins came along and had my fair share of challenges so had no choice but to combi-feed. Everyone’s story is unique, so let’s give a high-five to all the mums out there, no matter how they nourish their little ones.

Now, let me spill the beans: I’m not on the gentil parenting train. I believe in balance and discipline. Kids need to learn about the big “no” and the art of respecting rules. It’s all about letting them test the waters but knowing there are lines in the sand—just like in life.

Food talk time—should tiny humans ever munch on sweets beyond fruit? My rule was no sugary treats before their first birthday. Now, I let them nibble on goodies in moderation, and yes, they get a sip of weak squash now and then. And that’s perfectly fine.

Sure, not everyone can stay at home, but saying nursery gives kids a leg up is a bit of a stretch. Nursery’s got its perks, but it doesn’t turn them into super kids.

And about keeping kids spotless? Forget it! They need to dive into the dirt, leap, climb, and chew on a little earth. It’s all part of their grand discovery mission. Watch them, guide them, and they might just teach you something new, opening your eyes to the world’s wonders.

Now, do kids crave rigid routines or is that more for us, the parents? I thrive on structure but don’t let it tie me down. Plans can bend, depending on what’s happening or what the kiddos need. Life’s an adventure, after all!

Here’s my mum hack of the week: unleash the scooter beasts! If you’re plotting to tire out your tiny tornadoes before nap time, let them scoot their way to the park. Our park is a mere 12-minute walk away, but this epic journey took us a whopping 45 minutes. By the time we finally reached the swing set, it was one quick swoosh before the boys were ready to snooze.

Of course, it wasn’t all sunshine and giggles—what day is? There were tantrums aplenty, but watching them scoot around was a joy. It was a sloooow journey, filled with stress and tedium, them veering off, lagging behind, and taking endless breaks. Still, I was amazed at how far their tiny legs managed to scoot. They even wanted to scoot a bit on the way back until Teddy decided to call it quits and lugged his scooter back to the pram. By the time we hit home, the boys were out like lights, successfully transferred to their cots. Even I needed a nap after that tiny adventure. This means that I can drink my morning cup of ambition whilst the boys are happily feeding their little faces and we all get to fuel ourselves for the days adventures.

Wow! An early start for us today, I am epitome of a ‘mumbie’ 🧟‍♀️ today. After being up through the night with Bear, a 05:45 start to day felt like a rude awakening for sure. Still, the dynamic duo were, on whole, in good spirits and we headed off to join in the musical fun with @tjmmc_gloucester. Dive into a whirlwind Wednesday with me and the dynamic duo! It’s a circus act of juggling twins and tackling a mountain of clean laundry lounging on the kitchen bench—hey, at least it’s clean, and the laundry basket is kinda empty!

First up, puncture repair duty followed by the epic clean-up mission after the twin tornado struck. Raspberry stains on carpet? Check. Got the boys to ‘help’ with the vacuuming. When the dust settled, we escaped to a new park to bask in the late afternoon sun. The boys had a blast exploring their new territory until little Ted decided to take a slide off the climbing frame, sending me into a mini heart attack. But fear not, all is well! Bruises and tumbles aside, we had a pretty good day!

As you might have heard, I’m on a quest to “battle the bulge” and bring those healthy habits roaring back! With the superhero help of @katebrisland_fitness , I’m diving into this adventure with a focus on moving, munching on the good stuff, and carving out a sacred 10-minute “me time” away from all distractions—yes, that means my phone, TV, kids, and dare I say, even my partner! Just a little slice of peace to breathe. I’m feeling quite chuffed with my progress, although I could have squeezed in more movement yesterday and today. All aboard the motivation express! Kicking off the day with a berries, chia and flax seed and Manuka honey overnight oats, washed down with a refreshing pint of water before my much-anticipated cup of ambition!

The day unfolded with a high-octane birthday bash at a soft play paradise, and boy, was I grateful for that power breakfast—keeping pace with the dynamic duo was a full-body workout in itself! Even after all that action, the kiddos vetoed nap time, so I decided to hop on the fitness train for my maiden buggy run with my trusty @outnabout_official nipper. Those air-filled tires and suspension sure got a workout as I pushed the twins for two miles—talk about feeling the burn! But hey, I’m thrilled I stayed focused. Tomorrow’s a fresh chapter, and I’m hoping the motivation locomotive keeps steaming ahead because I’m loving this new, energized version of me!

Honestly, isn’t it wild how a splash of sunshine turns everything from blah to hurrah? Honestly, isn’t it wild how a splash of sunshine turns everything from blah to hurrah? It’s like a magical spell that makes life smoother, even when toddler meltdowns erupt and the never-ending cycle of changing and nap chaos kicks in. Knowing we can simply escape to the garden or take a stroll without a full-on mission makes everything feel like a breeze.

We had a fabulous day today, and boy, was it productive! I was on a cleaning spree, tackling the kitchen, which had been a thorn in my side. The bathroom is still giving me side-eye, but after that kitchen triumph, I’m all fired up to conquer it tomorrow. The dynamic duo were pure joy today. Watching them dive into their imaginative play and become little independent adventurers has been heartwarming. This new role-playing phase, with bits of wooden food and pretend tea parties, is just too cute for words!

I hope you’re having a good week so far, what are you all up to for the school holidays? With many of usual groups taking a break we will be using the garden for our outdoor escape lots I’m sure!
